Ber-Henda Williams is a Bilingual Poet/Speaker that runs the intersections of race, gender and culture.

FINDING YOUR PEOPLE REQUIRES KNOWING AND ACCEPTING YOURSELF

 

In this interview, spoken word artist, activist and visionary empath Ber-Henda Williams shares some of her personal journey with loneliness. She explores how:

  • being an empath can lead to feeling at odds with the larger world

  • looking for ourselves in an external way does not lead to who we really are

  • the more expressed she became, the more her people found her

  • being willing to be vulnerable plays a big role in transforming loneliness

BIO:

Ber-Henda Williams lives according to her name’s Germanic-Greek origin, “The Bear Hearted Protector” of multiculturalism, art and womanhood. She focuses her energy as a femolutionary, poet, teacher, author, television and film producer, youth advocate and public speaker.

With a passion for culture, community and connections, she has served as host, coordinator and marketing professional for innumerable cultural enrichment events, including her recent involvement as program consultant and Mistress of Ceremonies for FORD UAW Women’s Expo 2018. 

As founder of the Power of Girlhood, a non-profit leadership development institute for girls 13-18 years old, Williams, in June, 2011, sponsored the first Power of Girlhood, a full day of celebratory and empowering programs, performances, vendors and activities. More than 200 girls and their families participated. It has since become an annual event. The Power of Girlhood hosts workshops and girlhood activities throughout the metro-Detroit area, and has a residency at various schools.  

Williams has served as guest lecturer for Detroit Creative Mornings, launched B Intentional with Ber-Henda Williams, a community and cultural initiative and radio show on Motor City Woman. Bilingual for more than 10 years, she has severed on several panels such as Academia del Pueblo for Wayne State University, and Build Institute’s Youth Entrepreneurship, Hustle, Glow, Grow: Healthy Mind, Healthy Me! In 2016, she was a Featured Presenter at SXSW 2016 Interactive Track.  

Williams has also several media credits that include her work as a CW 50 Community Correspondent, Poetry, Pages, and Scribes co-producer for Channel 15 and consultant for the spoken word documentary, Televising a Revolution of Spoken Word in Detroit.  Williams is also an alumni for The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers, The Vagina Monologues, and Listen to Your Mother. She draws her inspiration from poets such as Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Ursula Rucker, Prince, Saul Williams, Nikki Giovanni, Rumi and Khalil Gibran. Ber-Henda Williams is an ambassador of the arts.
